Algonquin Park Lookout Point
What started out as a great ideal by someone I know very well, of a painting from a fall scene at Algonquin Park, turned out to be an after thought in the end. Crazy work days and busy nights prevented her from finishing what could of been another work of art.
The canvas sat for months unfinished to the point the canvas was going to get tossed in the trash. Rather than seeing a fine canvas go to waste, I was given permission to re-purpose the canvas and paint over the half finished painting. Keeping the theme of Algonquin in mind and on the canvas, a new painting has been created with a new image using oils
Original Acrylic transformed into Oil painting
Below is the original acrylic painting that was never completed. Using a charcoal pencil, a rough sketch was drawn over the existing canvas.
Oil over Acrylic
Start of applying the sky and silhouette of my daughter who is posing in the original photograph. While it's okay to paint oil over acrylic, my South Paw/fist (as always) got caught up in a portion of the sky which removed a layer of the oil. It was time to sit back and watch paint dry at this point.
After letting the oils dry for a couple weeks, a little touch up to the fist smudges were applied along with detailing profile features and the blouse.

While watching paint dry and in the hustle/bustle of my day, I was racing passed the canvas to complete a household task when I noticed this glimpse of an evening sun ray racing across the canvas through my window. Couldn't help but stop and enjoy the moment.
Toning down hues of blue in the sky with some Titanium White washed with a dab Naples Yellow while tending to the rock bed shadows.
