Trying to have grown ups teach me how to knit when I was younger was somewhat of a challenge as my knitting mentors were all right handed. Being a Southpaw, I basically watched my instructors intently but had to teach myself how to reverse the process. Needless to say, with my eagerness and perseverance to learn, I was able to teach myself basic knitting skills.
Fast forward years later, our oldest daughter spotted a "Giganto Blanket" and asked, "Mom, can you PLEASE make this blanket for me?" Looked into the procedure, purchased the pattern and was on my way to create a unique gift. The blanket is made from pure wool rovings and knitted on two, 5 foot long. 1 1/2 inch diameter PVC pipes. While standing to knit this blanket was a challenge (but the best way), it was also a great workout! As mentioned, the blanket's total finished weight is 7 pounds and is more of a lap blanket. It is however; the warmest and coziest blanket on a cold or chilly night. |
