This 24 x 12 oil on canvas painting was inspired by photographer Jim Carroll on a hot summer day in July, 2024. He described the mood and setting of taking this picture as;
I got lucky with the light and the red sun just peaking on the horizon. It only looked like the photograph for maybe a minute or two then it got brighter and all the shadows and colour went away. I was watching ducks in the river as the sun was rising and decide to look back to see if the sun had come up yet and this is what I saw!
A quick coat of acrylic black was applied to the entire canvas to give a dark effect of the warm Alizarion Crimson with Cadmium Yellow sunset. These warm colours were applied and wanted to let the skies cure for a few weeks before applying a mix of Indian Yellow and Permanent red to the red sky. The sheep were carefully created using Van Dyke Brown with a hint of Titanium White.
