2017 was a bad year with the loss of Canada's iconic singer, songwriter and poet, Gord Downie after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. In addition to Gord's death, it was also a personal tragedy losing a family member one week prior to Gord's death of the same Cancer. She was only 31 years old.
As a tribute to Canadian Music, the land I call home and loved ones, this compilation of images come together on an 11x14" Gallery Wrapped Canvas with Oil and mixing mediums. The base of the painting started with a photograph of the sun's reflection shining on Lake Erie with a Canadian Flag waving proudly. A sketch of Gord was referenced and created onto the canvas as well.
Applied dark tones with the shadow outlined of Gord Downie
Started to apply light wash of flag while touching up whites of waves
Need to let sit for a few weeks before washing/blending more of flag while adding final touches to water
Final touches to the canvas were completed with various Tragically Hip song titles rippling in the waves. So small but so significant to the completed painting
